Homecoming Spectacular Was Spectacular

Last night Marc and I went to BYU’s Homecoming Spectacular. I’ve been the last few years and I have to say this show was my favorite so far! The theme for night was Go The Distance and honored Rex E Lee, BYU’s former President. I didn’t know anything about Mr. Lee before the show, but I learned he was an incredible man.

LaVell Edwards was the Emcee. He was hilarious…with incredibly dry humor. I’m surprised that I didn’t cry once during this show because I always get so emotional during good performances. I just love performing arts. I would go to a show every night if I could. The BYU groups were all great. The Young Ambassadors, Synthesis, Dancer’s Company, Cougarettes, Living Legends and the Men’s Chorus all performed. Maybe it was just me but you almost want to jump out of your chair and dance with them or sing along! :) The special guest of the night was Jenny Oaks Baker. She was incredible! Click on her website. The music player on her site plays Suite from Far and Away. She played it last night and it was amazing. Thanks Ed and Lynne for a great night out!

Sidenote: Never order hot chocolate at Wendy’s. They’ll hand you a cup of hot water and a packet of mix!!

A Spa That Slithers?

Ada Barak’s Carnivorous Plant Farm in northern Israel offers an unusual type massage. She uses…snakes. According to this article in Time, Ada says:

After some experimenting, she eventually settled on a combo of big snakes for a deep massage (the king and corn snakes are heavy enough to produce a kneading sensation) and little ones, whose passage over the skin is a trembling flutter. “People either like it a lot or they hate it,” says Barak.

Seriously? I would never, never, never do this. Would any of you enjoy a snake massage?

Aloha Friday #3

Kailani at An Island Life does Aloha Friday and here is what she has to say:

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

My question to you is:

What TV show or movie can your kids watch over and over?

Bug can watch the Choo Choo Soul clips from Playhouse Disney over and over and over (and over)….

I love this site. Blurb helps you create a book out of your blog! What a great way to keep your memories accessible. I think I’ll make a new book for each year as a keepsake.

Blog Technical Difficulties

I started to update some design elements on my blog…bad idea to do it in the middle of the day. So – I don’t have time to finish it right now! As soon as my kids are asleep, I’ll have things up and running again. For now, you’ll have to look at the boring, old default wordpress design. Sorry!

Another Reason To Like Fringe

Fox decided to try running shorter commercials during Fringe with the theory that more people would actually watch them rather than flipping through the channels. And it’s working. According to the recent stats 88% of people watching other Fox dramas don’t flip during the commercials, while 92% of people watching Fringe stay tuned. Interesting! Here is a snippet from the article in the Washington Post:

Back in May, when Fox execs unveiled their 2008-09 season plans to advertisers in New York, they promised to slash ad time on J.J. Abrams‘s “Fringe” and Joss Whedon‘s midseason “Dollhouse.”

We’re going to have less commercials, less promotional time and less reason for viewers to use the remote,” Fox entertainment division Chairman Peter Liguori said. “We’re going to have more character, more content, more value.”

The network even gave it a name: Remote-Free TV.

According to Magna, “Fringe” so far has contained less than half the commercial load of the typical Fox drama. The average Fox drama is 70 percent drama, 27 percent ads. When you’re watching “Fringe” you’re getting 84 percent drama, 13 percent ads.

I guess I have another reason to love Fringe – Hooray for “Remote Free TV”!

Conference Recap

As usual, LDS General Conference delivered good news, good advice and good feelings. It was comforting to hear President Monson tell me (and you, but I took it personally :) ) that one day I really will miss the piles and piles of laundry and the little fingerprints covering every surface imaginable! But today we should worry about the things that matter most. He said, “Let us relish life as we live it, find joy in the journey and share our love with friends and family. One day, each of us will run out of tomorrows.”
